World Book Day
There has been a real buzz around reading this term at The East Manchester Academy. Beswick library is packed with dedicated readers before school, during social times and after school with a record number of books being taken out by our pupils. Our first Spelling Bee took place this week with Sama (Year 8) being awarded as our TEMA Spelling Champion.
The arrival of World Book Day at The East Manchester is fast approaching and signals the launch of lots of exciting reading-related activities and competitions. Staff at The East Manchester Academy are deciding which literary character they will be next Thursday and pupils will have the opportunity to vote for the best dressed teacher. Staff will also be displaying their ‘favourite book from secondary school’ in their classrooms and pupils will compete to collect these titles for an amazing prize.
There will be a range of World Book Day activities in form time next week with pupils reflecting on their favourite book and listening to staff members reading snippets of their own. Beswick library will be transformed into a reading restaurant where pupils will have the opportunity to sample reading delights in every genre imaginable and competitive staff will be competing in a World Book Day quiz.
