A student during Careers Week 2026

Careers Week 2026 ( Published: 12/03/2026)

Careers Week 2026 has been an inspiring showcase of the opportunities available to our students as they explore future pathways.

Across all year groups, pupils took part in a rich programme of events, workshops, visits, and assemblies designed to broaden horizons and build the skills they need for success.

At the heart of the week was our school’s core REACH value of Ambition, and our mission that all students go on to a fulfilling career. Every activity provided experiences to help students imagine – and plan for – their futures.

Year 10: Aviation Careers and University Pathways

Our Year 10 students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Manchester Aviation Careers Fair at Manchester Airport. They met industry professionals, explored roles ranging from engineering to air traffic control, and gained a first-hand understanding of the fast-growing aviation sector.

Year 10 also benefited from a specialist visit to the University of Salford, organised by GM Higher. This visit focused on pathways into studying languages and opened students’ eyes to the global opportunities that linguistic skills can offer—from translation and diplomacy to international business.

Year 9: Budgeting Skills and Employer Engagement

Year 9 developed essential life skills during budgeting workshops delivered by GM Higher. These engaging sessions helped students explore financial decision-making, cost-of-living awareness, and how to manage money responsibly—skills that will support them throughout their lives.

Additionally, students took part in DHL’s Go Teach employer engagement workshops. These sessions provided real-world insight into one of the world’s major logistics companies, helping students understand employability skills and how global businesses operate.

Year 8: Skills for Life

The whole of Year 8 took part in Skills for Life workshops focused on developing key employability skills. Students explored teamwork, communication, resilience, and problem-solving—attributes that form the foundation of success in any future career.

University of Manchester: Black Insights Programme

A group of students took part in the University of Manchester’s Black Insights Programme, run in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities. This initiative supports Black students in exploring academic pathways, developing confidence, and accessing inspirational mentors and role models from across the university community.

The Aspire Programme: Literacy and Legal Careers

Throughout the week, students also engaged with the Aspire Programme, delivered in partnership with the National Literacy Trust and Browne Jacobson solicitors. This initiative builds literacy, communication, and analytical thinking through activities connected to the legal profession. Pupils gained insight into legal careers while strengthening the high-level literacy skills crucial for success in many fields.

Labour Market Information Assemblies

All year groups took part in assemblies led by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, focusing on local labour market information and the region’s key gateways. These sessions gave students a clear understanding of emerging job sectors, future skills needs, and the opportunities available within Greater Manchester.

Celebrating Ambition and Looking Ahead

Careers Week 2026 empowered students to think ambitiously about their futures and provided valuable experiences to help them make informed decisions. By engaging with universities, employers, professionals, and trusted partners, our students are building the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed to thrive.

We are proud of the ambition shown across our school community and remain committed to ensuring that every student is equipped to go on to a fulfilling career.
