Year 9 Salford Quays Trip ( Published: 21/07/2026)

To complement their studies in History and Geography, Year 9 students were given the opportunity to visit the Imperial War Museum North, and complete Geography fieldwork in Salford Quays.

Year 9 visited Salford Quays and the Imperial War Museum North in July 2026. Students took the tram across to Salford Quays and were introduced to the museum content by experienced Army veterans. They took the time to reflect on what they were seeing and expressed shock at the experiences of some of the victims of war. They were particularly impressed by the real military planes, tanks, and ammunition that they saw. Students took the opportunity to speak to the veterans as they were going round, and found out lots about their experiences of fighting in war in more recent times.

Students also enjoyed exploring the Salford Quays area as part of their Geography studies, completing field sketches, environmental quality surveys and land use maps to assess the success of the regeneration project. They were amazed at the amount of businesses that operate in the area, and were particularly excited to see the BBC’s World Cup display.

Students had a great day experiencing History and Geography in real life. Many were particularly surprised that some of the artefacts in the museum were real.
Miss Carr-Brown, Head of Humanities

The museum was my favourite part. I spent ages reading about the different things on display. I would definitely visit Salford Quays again.
