'Egg Babies', prepared by Year 10 Child Development students in March 2026

Cracking Success: Year 10 Child Development Students Celebrate Outstanding Coursework Results ( Published: 13/04/2026)

We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievements of our Year 10 Child Development cohort.

Following a period of intense focus and dedication, the group has delivered excellent coursework results, demonstrating a deep understanding of the early years sector and child growth. To reward their hard work and bring their classroom theory to life, the students took part in a special ‘Egg Baby’ workshop.

Meet the New Arrivals

As a reward for their academic success, each student was tasked with creating and ‘parenting’ their very own Egg Baby. The classroom was a hive of creativity as students decorated their fragile eggs, gave them names, and even crafted tiny carriers and blankets to keep them safe.

However, the fun comes with a serious challenge – The Egg Baby Weekend. Students took their eggs home and were responsible for their 24/7 care until the following Monday morning.

The Science Behind the Scramble: Why Egg Babies?

While the activity is a fantastic reward, it serves as a powerful practical learning tool. Looking after a fragile ‘infant’ for 48 hours teaches several vital lessons that textbooks simply cannot:

  • Responsibility and Reliability – students must consider the egg’s safety at all times, whether they are eating, sleeping, or hanging out with friends
  • Empathy and Nurturing – it fosters a sense of care and highlights the constant attention a dependent requires
  • Risk Assessment – students have to think ahead. ‘Is this table safe?’ ‘Who will watch the egg while I’m busy?’ It encourages them to identify potential hazards in a real-world environment
  • Time Management – balancing homework and weekend chores with the demands of ‘parenting’ helps students understand the reality of balancing different roles in life

Looking Ahead

We are incredibly proud of the maturity our students have shown in their coursework and their enthusiasm for this project. We look forward to seeing the ‘survivors’ return to school on Monday and hearing the stories of their weekend adventures.

Huge congratulations again to Year 10 – keep up the amazing work!
