RHS Green Shoots Taster Day ( Published: 16/03/2026)
The event was designed for Key Stage 4 students and interested Year 9 pupils who have a curiosity about plants, gardening, or careers in horticulture.
The day formed part of the RHS Green Shoots programme, which supports young people in discovering pathways into horticulture. The RHS generously offered our school a dedicated work experience taster day, giving students the chance to spend time in a real horticultural environment and experience what working in the industry might be like.
During the session, students took part in hands-on practical gardening activities, working directly in the gardens and learning some of the skills used by professional horticulturists. They also had the opportunity to go behind the scenes, ask questions, and find out more about the wide range of roles available in horticulture.
The day was packed with learning and exploration. Students gained a valuable insight into the work carried out by the Royal Horticultural Society and discovered more about the different career routes, training opportunities, and volunteering programmes that are available within the sector.
For many of our students, the visit was not only an enjoyable day outdoors but also a chance to consider new possibilities for their future. Experiences like this are invaluable in helping young people explore their interests, build confidence, and develop practical skills in a supportive and inspiring environment.
