Languages XP Project ( Published: 19/03/2026)
During February 2026, our students enjoyed a series of enrichment lessons delivered by student volunteers from The University of Manchester, as part of the Languages XP Project.
Over the course of three weeks, visiting university students introduced pupils to Latin, French and Italian through a range of engaging activities and discussions. The sessions gave students the chance to learn new words and phrases, discover how languages are connected, and explore the cultures behind them.
The lessons were lively and interactive, with plenty of opportunities for students to take part by practicing pronunciation and working together on activities. TEMA students were incredibly enthusiastic throughout the project – they eagerly participated in activities, volunteered answers, and asked thoughtful, curious questions. Many commented on how inspiring it was to learn directly from university students and to experience languages they had never studied before.
Overall, I love learning about new things, and languages is one of them because it improves my confidence and it also makes me standout.
A Year 9 Student
Learning about family members, different colours and sports was the most useful and enjoyable for me.
A Year 9 Student
It was interesting to know about the language that helped build the languages we use today.
A Year 7 Student
We would like to say a big thank you to The University of Manchester and the Languages XP Project team for organising this opportunity, as well as to the university students who gave their time to deliver the sessions. Their enthusiasm and knowledge helped make the experience both enjoyable and inspiring for our students.
