Students during the Young Leaders Award at Old Trafford in May 2023

Five of our Key Stage 3 students completed a two-day Manchester United ‘Young Leaders Award’, hosted at Old Trafford stadium.

The course is a great introduction to leadership, and provides young people with the knowledge of how to organise and lead small games and activities that can be used as a part of school sport, community club or sports club sessions. The ‘Young Leaders Award’ aims to help learners develop leadership skills such as organisation, communication and teamwork, as well as helping to build confidence and self-esteem, as they take on the responsibility of leading their peers and younger children.

Consisting of both theory and practical elements, students worked their way through the course content, which eventually saw them plan and deliver their very own football activity on the final day. To conclude, the group took a tour of the stadium, dug out and changing rooms to cap an amazing two days.

It was a very fun course and it brought out the best in me by helping me come out of my comfort zone.
