Young Carers Nominated for Film Festival Award ( Published: 26/11/2025)

Young reporters from The East Manchester Academy have been shortlisted at the Aldridge UTC Film Festival.

The festival, based at Media City, Salford, takes pride in discovering and championing emerging film makers around Greater Manchester and beyond.

The reporters worked with Media Cubs to create a short film for their peers in school, raising awareness of their roles as young carers; those who are under the age of 18 and provide care to another family member.

The film was used in school personal development sessions and assemblies to promote understanding and care, and has now been nominated for ‘Best Under 16’ film:

Kirsty Day, Media Director at Media Cubs, said:

We are unbelievably proud of the reporters – this project was their first time in front and behind the camera. To create a film that raises awareness of such an important topic, and to get this recognition, is fantastic news.
