Students at Manchester Central Library, where they took part in a masterclass poetry workshop in March 2023

Students Shine in Poetry Masterclass ( Published: 08/03/2023)

As part of the English Department’s commitment to enhancing students’ poetry skills, Year 9 students were given the opportunity to attend Manchester Central Library, where they took part in a masterclass poetry workshop.

The event took place on Wednesday 1st March 2023 and saw students partake in a session on creating and performing ballads about Manchester, drawing inspiration from original texts held in the library from the Suffragette Movement to the Peterloo Massacre. They also had a tour of the Poetry Library at Manchester Metropolitan University and took part in a university style workshop. The students really impressed with their poetry and were outstanding ambassadors for the school.

They took the scavenger hunt in the library really seriously – the poetry writing exercise was great and they achieved a huge amount in one day.
