World Book Day 2026 ( Published: 25/02/2026)

Reading is Fundamental
At The East Manchester Academy, we know that Reading is Fundamental to every student’s success. Our commitment to nurturing confident, curious and informed readers ensures that students not only enjoy reading, but also recognise the lifelong advantages it brings, from strengthened vocabulary and imagination to improved wellbeing and academic achievement.
Students at the Academy are proud to read and understand the extensive benefits that reading provides.
As part of the National Year of Reading and to encourage students to read more widely and more often, we provide a range of exciting opportunities throughout the year. This includes our involvement in the National Literacy Trust’s ‘Read, Imagine, Grow‘ competition, which inspires young people to become climate aware citizens through creative reading and writing.

By engaging with literature centred on environmental issues, students develop both their literacy skills and their understanding of the world around them. To learn more about this competition please see the We Wonder: Protect Our Nature book list.

World Book Day
We also celebrate World Book Day in style at TEMA. This year’s events include a Book Recommendation Treasure Hunt, a lively World Book Day Quiz, with fantastic prizes on offer for students who complete book reviews and update their Reading Log in their journal. These activities are designed to spark curiosity, build reading confidence and create a strong culture of reading for pleasure across the school.

Students will be able to purchase a range of entertaining and suitable reading for FREE using the World Book Day tokens. These will be given out by Progress Tutors next week and can be redeemed at a range of book shops and supermarkets. For more information, watch the video below:
You can explore all of the books on offer via the World Book Day website!
The REACH Gazette
And there’s even more to come – keep an eye out for the first edition of our student led magazine, The REACH Gazette, where our talented young writers and editors will share stories, reviews and features that showcase the vibrant reading community and culture here at TEMA.

At The East Manchester Academy, reading truly is fundamental and we’re proud to help every student turn the page to new opportunities.
