Year 8 Visit to Shree Ram Mandir, Ashton under Lyne ( Published: 11/02/2026)

Recently, Year 8 students had the opportunity to visit Shree Ram Mandir, a vibrant Hindu temple located in Ashton under Lyne. This enrichment trip formed part of their Religious Education studies, supporting their curriculum focus on Hindu beliefs, practices, and places of worship.

A Warm Welcome and Insightful Introduction

Upon arrival, students were welcomed by temple volunteers, who introduced them to the history and purpose of Shree Ram Mandir. The mandir serves as an important spiritual and cultural centre for the local Hindu community and provides daily worship opportunities, open to visitors throughout the week.

Students learned that the temple is home to a thriving community deeply committed to celebrating Hindu traditions and spirituality. The temple leadership also supports community events, educational programmes, and ongoing cultural initiatives, as highlighted on their website: shreerammandirashton.co.uk

Exploring the Mandir

During the visit, pupils were shown key areas within the temple, where they observed:

  • Murti (sacred images) used in worship
  • Offerings and prayer rituals
  • Traditional architecture and symbolic designs
  • The main prayer hall, where daily worship (Aarti) takes place

Students were encouraged to ask questions, and they showed great curiosity about Hindu beliefs such as dharma (duty), karma (action), and the significance of deities like Lord Ram.

Experiencing Hindu Worship

A highlight of the visit was witnessing elements of Aarti, the daily worship ceremony that takes place at set times throughout the week. Students observed the use of light, sound, and devotion in worship, and many commented on the peaceful atmosphere within the mandir.

Volunteers also explained how the temple plays an active role in preserving cultural traditions, hosting events, festivals, and educational gatherings for people of all ages – including youth groups and community workshops.

Cultural Understanding and Respect

Throughout the morning, our Year 8s demonstrated excellent respect and engagement. They reflected on similarities and differences between Hindu worship and other religious traditions studied in class. Many students said the visit helped them better understand the diversity of religious life in Greater Manchester and the importance of places of worship in fostering community.

A Valuable Learning Experience

We are extremely grateful to the team at Shree Ram Mandir for their warm hospitality and for creating a memorable learning experience for our students. Visits like these help bring classroom learning to life, supporting students in developing deeper cultural awareness and appreciation for the rich religious diversity of our region.
