Year 7 Students Explore Climate Change Through Creative Flags Workshop ( Published: 23/06/2025)
Through storytelling, discussion, and creative expression, the workshop encouraged students to reflect on their individual roles in shaping a sustainable future. They communicated their climate hopes and concerns by collaboratively designing and creating flags.
The workshop included discussions about climate change, where students shared their experiences and talked about their hopes and concerns for the future. They were introduced to protest art and visual symbolism, which inspired them to sketch flag ideas and select words, colours, and materials to express their messages.
Using second-hand fabric and scrap materials, students crafted vibrant flags and presented their work to peers, explaining the meaning behind their designs. This activity helped develop their creativity, empathy, and communication skills.
As a result of the workshop, students gained greater awareness of how climate change affects their lives and communities. The experience strengthened their creative confidence and teamwork skills, resulting in a collaborative artwork that will be publicly exhibited. This exhibition aims to stimulate further dialogue about youth perspectives on climate change, highlighting the important voices of our students on this pressing global issue.
