Students during a careers talk to mark World Environment Day 2025

Students Inspired by Green Careers on World Environment Day ( Published: 18/08/2025)

To mark World Environment Day 2025, students in Years 8 and 9 were treated to an inspiring and informative careers talk, from volunteers at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).

The event aimed to raise awareness of sustainability and highlight the exciting career opportunities in the UK’s growing green economy.

The visiting DESNZ team, which included engineers and policy professionals from the Net Zero Buildings division, shared their experiences working on projects that help reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and shape the future of sustainable living in the UK.

During the session, students:

  • Learned about the UK’s Net Zero goals and how government departments are working to achieve them
  • Explored career pathways in environmental engineering, energy policy, and sustainable construction
  • Took part in a Q&A session where they asked about apprenticeships, university routes, and the skills needed for green careers
  • Discovered how they can make a difference through careers that contribute to tackling climate change

The event supported our school’s commitment to climate education and provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-world impact.

We thank the DESNZ volunteers for their time and for inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders.
